Bert and Beth

SONNET #43, FROM THE PORTUGUESE:
How do I Love Thee?
By Elizabeth Barrett Browning

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of everyday's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints! --- I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! --- and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

I was introduced to this poem in highschool. Back then, it was just some poem we had to interpret line by line. No more than homework. (And perhaps then, my romantic bone wasn't fully developed yet. hehehe!)

A few days ago, the title popped up on my mind from out of nowhere. Reading the lines again made me realize i should have paid more attention to my fave English teacher. Maybe if I had, I would have memorized it beyond the first line. hehehe. This is my second chance.

She and Robert must really be in love ne? Saya siguro nila!

Tugudug ko, para sayo to. =)

Ocean Jay

Last year, I posted an entry entitled Umi no hi. Ang haba-haba nun. Kinukwento ko dun in details kung anong nangyari last year during that long weekend when we had a four day celebration of a friend's birthday (actually kahit wala si Jay, tutuloy pa rin namin yung party hehehe!).

I deleted that entry for a while for editing but tinatamad pa ako. hehehe. So this year, instead of reposting that entry, gumawa na lang ako ng bago. And since these days, nahihirapan akong bumuo ng sentences, tinula ko na lang (baka kasi maging sintunado pa. hahaha!).

*******
Umi no Hi (Ocean Day)

Natapos ang masayang salusalo
nang dumampi sa mga labi
ko ang huling katas ng ubas
na bumulong, tulog na Ineng

Kaya't gaya ng dati ay
humimlay na nang mag-isa
Di alintana kung sino ang
kasamang pumikit ng mata

Kinabukasan sa pagtilaok ni tandang,
Naalimpungatang katabi

at panalanging 'wag munang magising

Toktoktok! Almusal na!
alok ng kapitbahay
Tara, bangon na Tayo!
Magandang Umaga!
